Why photos appear rotated
Smartphones and digital cameras record the physical orientation of the device when taking a photo and store it as EXIF orientation metadata. Most modern software reads this metadata and displays the photo correctly. However, some applications, websites and older software ignore EXIF data and display the raw pixel data — showing the photo at 90° or 180°. Our tool corrects this by physically rotating the pixels and resetting the EXIF orientation flag to "normal", ensuring universal correct display regardless of the viewing software.
Rotation vs flip operations
Rotate 90° clockwise: turns the image so what was the left edge becomes the top. Rotate 90° counter-clockwise (= 270° CW): turns the image so what was the right edge becomes the top. Rotate 180°: flips the image upside down. Horizontal flip (mirror): creates a mirror image left-to-right — useful for text in mirrors, selfie camera reversal or artistic effects. Vertical flip: creates a top-to-bottom mirror — useful for reflection effects.

Why does my iPhone photo appear rotated?
iPhones store orientation in EXIF metadata. Some platforms and viewers ignore this, displaying the raw pixel orientation. Our tool physically rotates the pixels and resets EXIF orientation to ensure correct display everywhere.
Is rotation lossless for JPEG images?
For 90° and 270° rotations on JPEG images with dimensions divisible by 8, lossless rotation is applied (no re-compression). For other dimensions, minimal re-compression may occur.
Does rotation change the file size?
Rotation changes the image dimensions (width and height are swapped for 90° and 270°). File size remains virtually identical.
Can I flip an image horizontally?
Yes. Use the "flip horizontal" option to create a left-right mirror of your image — useful for correcting selfie camera reversal or creating reflection effects.
What formats are supported?
JPG, PNG and WebP. GIF animation rotation is not supported.
