Why EPUB is better than PDF on e-readers
PDFs have a fixed page layout — on small e-reader screens, text becomes tiny and requires zooming and panning to read. EPUB vs MOBI: which format for Kindle?
EPUB is now the standard for virtually all e-readers including all Kindle models released after 2022 (Paperwhite 11th gen+, Scribe, Kindle 2022+). MOBI was the older Kindle-specific format — it is no longer supported by Amazon for new Kindle uploads as of 2022. If you have an older Kindle that does not support EPUB, use Calibre (free desktop software) to convert EPUB to MOBI.

Does the PDF need to have a text layer for conversion?
Yes. Scanned PDFs without a text layer cannot be converted accurately. Use our OCR PDF tool first to add a text layer, then convert to EPUB.
Is complex PDF formatting preserved in EPUB?
Basic formatting (headings, paragraphs, bold, italic) is preserved well. Complex multi-column layouts, tables, footnotes and mathematical notation may not convert perfectly — EPUB has different layout capabilities than PDF.
Can I set the book title, author and language metadata?
Yes. Enter metadata before conversion — this information is embedded in the EPUB and displayed in your e-reader library.
What is the maximum PDF size for conversion?

Can I convert an EPUB back to PDF?
