What email validation checks
Level 1 — Syntax validation: checks the format against RFC 5321/5322 standards: presence of exactly one @ sign, valid local part (before @), valid domain format, presence of a top-level domain (TLD). Catches obvious errors like missing @, spaces in the address, invalid characters and non-existent TLDs. Level 2 — Domain validation: verifies the domain portion exists in DNS. A syntactically valid address like [email protected] fails this check. Level 3 — MX record check: verifies the domain has Mail Exchange (MX) records configured — confirming it is set up to receive email. A domain can exist without being configured for email.
Common email validation errors
Typo domains: gmail.cmo, yhaoo.com, outloook.com — our validator suggests corrections for common domain typos. Missing TLD: user@company without .com/.org/.net etc. Duplicate @ signs: user@@domain.com. Invalid characters: spaces, commas, colons in the local part. Disposable email domains: temporary email services (mailinator.com, guerrillamail.com) — the validator flags these for marketing and registration use cases.
FAQ
Does it check if the email inbox actually exists?
No. Full SMTP mailbox verification (connecting to the mail server and checking if the inbox exists) is not performed — this approach can get server IPs blocklisted. We verify syntax + domain + MX records, which catches the vast majority of invalid addresses.
Can I validate multiple email addresses at once?
Yes. Paste a list of email addresses (one per line) for bulk validation. Results are shown per address with pass/fail status.
Does it detect disposable or temporary email addresses?
Yes. Known disposable email domain databases are checked, flagging addresses from mailinator, guerrillamail, tempmail and similar services.
What is an MX record?
A Mail Exchange (MX) record is a DNS entry that specifies the mail server responsible for receiving email for a domain. Without MX records, a domain cannot receive email — even if the domain exists for a website.
Can it validate email addresses in all languages (internationalized domains)?
Yes. Internationalized domain names (IDN) using non-ASCII characters (e.g. Cyrillic, Arabic, Chinese) are supported and validated correctly.
Is this validation 100% reliable for email deliverability?
No validation is 100% reliable without actually sending an email. Our tool provides high confidence (syntax + DNS + MX), but some valid-looking addresses may still bounce. The only guaranteed deliverability test is sending a real confirmation email.
