Why your video files are large — and how compression helps
A 1-minute 4K video from a smartphone can easily be 400-600 MB. The H.264 codec (and newer H.265/HEVC) analyzes temporal redundancy between frames — areas that do not change between frames are stored only once rather than repeated. This is called inter-frame compression and is what makes H.264/H.265 70-80% more efficient than raw video. Our compressor uses FFmpeg, the same engine used by YouTube, Netflix and Vimeo for their video processing pipelines.
Reduce video size for specific platforms
WhatsApp: max 16 MB (basic), 2 GB (Business). Email attachment: typically 10-25 MB depending on your provider. Instagram DMs: max 1 GB, but 100 MB or less uploads faster. Slack: max 1 GB but 100 MB or less recommended for fast sharing. Web embedding: 5-10 MB for a 1-minute web video is a good target for fast loading.

How much will compression reduce my video file size?
It depends on the source codec and content. H.264 source videos can be reduced by 30-50% more. H.265/HEVC sources compress less further. Videos with static backgrounds (webinars, screencasts) compress more efficiently than fast-action sports footage.
What is the maximum file size for compression?
Videos up to 500 MB per upload are supported.
How long does compression take?
30 seconds to 5 minutes depending on video length, resolution and compression level. 4K videos take longer than 1080p.
Does compression reduce video resolution?
Not by default. The compressed video retains the original resolution. You can optionally reduce resolution (e.g. 4K to 1080p) in the settings for additional size savings.
Which video formats are supported?
