Free AI Keyword Extractor Online — Extract Keywords from Text or PDF

Automatically extract the most important keywords and key phrases from any text or PDF using AI. Ideal for SEO, content analysis, research and document indexing.

How AI keyword extraction works

Our AI uses a combination of TF-IDF (Term Frequency–Inverse Document Frequency) and semantic analysis to identify the most significant terms in your document. TF-IDF measures how frequently a word appears in the document relative to how commonly it appears across all documents — this weights domain-specific terminology and content-defining words above common filler words. Semantic analysis groups related terms and identifies key concepts beyond exact word matching, capturing the topical clusters of the document.

Use cases for keyword extraction

SEO and content marketing: extract keywords from existing high-ranking content to understand what terms to target. Research and academia: quickly identify the central themes of research papers and literature without reading in full. Document indexing: automatically tag and categorize large document collections by extracted keywords. Competitive analysis: extract keywords from competitor content to identify gaps in your own coverage. Content brief creation: extract the key topics a piece of content covers before writing a competing article.

Output and interpretation

The tool returns the top 15 keywords and key phrases ranked by relevance score. Short single words (e.g. "data") are less actionable for SEO than multi-word phrases (e.g. "data compression algorithm"). Pay particular attention to 2-3 word phrases — these are typically the most useful for SEO targeting as they balance specificity with search volume.

FAQ

Can I extract keywords from a PDF?

Yes. Upload a PDF (up to 100 MB) and the tool extracts the text layer and identifies the most important keywords. Scanned PDFs require OCR processing first.

How many keywords does it extract?

Up to 15 keywords and key phrases, ranked by relevance score.

Can I use this for SEO keyword research?

Yes. It is excellent for identifying what keywords your own content covers and what competitors are targeting. However, it does not provide search volume or competition data — use dedicated SEO tools (Ahrefs, Semrush) for that.

Does it extract keywords in languages other than English?

Yes. French, Spanish, German, Portuguese and Italian are supported with good accuracy. Results for less common languages may be less precise.

Is there a text length limit?

Up to 50,000 characters of text input, or a PDF up to 100 MB.

Are stop words (common words like "the", "and") excluded?

Yes. Common stop words in all supported languages are filtered out automatically. Only content-bearing words and phrases are returned.
